This Veg Biryani Would Take Only 10 Minutes From Your Busy Schedule

Whenever I hear the word Biryani, my mouth starts watering. Obviously biryani is my favorite dish. Be it a small get-together or a birthday party, veg biryani is sure to be on my plate. 

I love biryani but haven’t thought where this word has come from and why it tastes so delicious? I searched about this and got to know that Biryani is a Persian word and has derived from the word ‘birian’. Today, Biryani has become a favorite recipe for everyone. Be it a kid or an adult, it is loved by all.

This veg biryani recipe was brought to India by Mughals. I love cooking and always look for something exotic to prepare for lunch and dinner. Recently, I organized a birthday party and not to mention veg biryani was on my menu (by default). Surprisingly, it tasted delicious and my friends asked me to share the veg biryani recipe. So, for all the biryani lovers, here is a quick step-by-step method to prepare veg biryani at home. Don’t forget to read the bonus tip that I have shared at the end of the post.

Ingredients to make vegetable biryani

  1. 300 -400 grams of basmati rice.
  2. 1 thinly sliced onion
  3. a few green finely chopped chilies
  4. 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste( chopped ginger would also work)
  5. a bunch of mint leaves/ chopped coriander
  6. 1 tomato 
  7. 2 tablespoon ghee or oil as per choice
  8. Salt as per taste
  9. 1-2 cups of water
  10. Peas, chopped carrot, beans and potato, and other vegetables of your choice (optional). 
  11. Tej Patta, cinnamon (dalchini), cloves (laung), and cumin seeds(jeera) if you want it to be a little spicy then add some red chili. 

How to make vegetable biryani

  • Take a pressure cooker and add oil/ghee to it. Let it heat for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add tej patta, elaichi, laung, and jeera. 
  • Next, add onion and stir until it turns golden brown.
  • Add chopped vegetables (green chili, ginger, and tomato) and allow it to cook for a few minutes. Now, add the soaked rice. 
  • Add salt as per taste and stir the rice for a minute.
  • Pressure cook it for 1 whistle on a medium flame. Cook it more if required.
  • If you are cooking the rice in a pot, then cook the rice until the vegetables are cooked properly. Yay! your biryani is ready to serve. 
  • But before you serve veg biryani, don’t forget to garnish it with almonds and cashews.

Bonus Tip: Biryani itself is a delicious meal, but to make it more scrumptious and flavorful serve it with papad, raita, or lassi by side.
